Default I sabotaged a mission

it felt bad... but it was still kind of cool...

We were doing... I think it was Ruins of Surmia... I could be wrong. I partied with one other who was in it only for the bonus and I advertised specifically that I wanted the bonus and the mission. I was also on my first mission with a newly recruited guildmate. This was the bonus where you have to follow the flame carriers to the corridor and kill them, it ends with the finding of the Horn and the crazy warp to Nolani academy.

We, by the team leaders run, not spoken direction, ran ahead of the flame carriers instead of following them. I suspected that he was leading us to the locked gate where we would just wait for them to arrive instead of following them slowly. We instead ran along to where the mission takes us normally. I kept shouting out that I am in this for the bonus which I made clear before entering the mission but I got no reply besides "come"... I trusted apprehensively.

We arrived at the crazy drunken slanted temple where three mages control obelisks and I realized, this guy is going to finish the mission without doing the bonus. No. So instead of helping them defend I ran out of the temple and aggroed several mobs and drew them in to the mages. I continued running around till the party was dead with only me remaining.

I then climbed up onto one of the obelisks and sat down. I sat there (looking quite peaceful, this is the cool part) while the Charr tore me apart. While getting killed someone shouted out "res" I replied simply with "I'm in this for the bonus, I made it clear from the start"

The reply to this (from the team leader) was "**** YOU! YOU DON'T LISTEN!!!" to which I replied "who doesn't listen? I've told you repeatedly that I wanted to do the bonus and you've said nothing on it. In fact, listen to what? You've said nothing except for "come" since the mission started."

I died, went back to the outpost and left the group to start a new party. One of the members in the same guild who was also in the failed party joined us and (as I suspected) dropped about halfway. It was probably an attempt at revenge, but it's easy enough with 3 people anyway.

I realized later that there was a significant chunk after the slanted temple, and that he probably intended to go back after this initial fight, but communication is important. He could have.... should have at least let us know the basics of his plan. Or said anything besides "come."

I felt bad... I'm not the kind of person who enjoys griefing or sabotaging. And I don't get off on revenge of this sort. However, the method in which I died, kneeling submissively below an obelisk taking the damage as it came to me, was pretty cool.

LOL! Just revenge for a moron. I don't have that sort of temerity. I would have just dropped and probably accomplished the same goal.

I prefer dancing towards inevitable death. But the most fun is when I'm a smiter, and I repeatedly tell my part as such, and when we enter the mission after I've spammed the message, they start asking me why the hell I'm not healing. If I can, I solo whatever mob killed them. Otherwise, I calmly explain that I told them I was a smiter several hundred times, and then /bowhead or /dance over their bodies.

Unfortunately I don't have screens (at pc cafe, not at home), but I seriously wish I had a video of me sacrificing myself while sitting on the altar (I'm necro fem, so my /sit emote is a cool kneeling pose)

Both sides of this story pretty much sums up why I hate pick up groups.

I hear ya there. I get that more and more. Smitting is fun. You can still heal. In fact I am equal in smitting, healing, divine favor for now. People think that the only reason to be a Monk is to heal them. I plan on becoming more of a protector later on. For now, many times it is my Fire Storm and Meteor that has saved them from total disaster. People will call me a n00b while they charge into a fight before checking with or listening to the casters to see what thier energy levels are. My guild mate is a Mo/R and is more into healing. I am a Mo/ele and like I said I will probably become a protector. That in mind when both of us do missions/quests together w/Teamspeak we are a good double punch.

Thumbs down

A buddy and myself were in a pick up group in Lornar's Pass the other day. He had resurrect ability, and I had my res signet equipped. I specifically told the brainless members of our entourage that if they died for some reason (the most common being they run ahead trying to be Rambo and have their anal cavaties infused, heh, with Avicara Fierce blades) that I would raise them, or the monk would.

Naturally, it became an exercise in tedium, as the w/n we had along for the run decided to aggro 8 lvl 24 ice golems ALONE. She ate it and then kept typign in all caps about the utter futility of it all, and how we are so lame. I intentionally wasted my rez then, and tricked her into walking RIGHT where a frost worm pops up. I turned on my knockdown prevention skill, then used sprint and hauled ass, leaving her to die again, albeit humiliatingly.

The other captain of the brainlessness decided to open his inventory bags (according to his own words) and attempted to use DYE on an Avicara Fierce! What the name of Balthazar? Of course he was made into man-stew.

The OTHER one, well, he tried to run back into Beacon's perch, which would force us to start anew, so I sprinted past him, trailing several DOZEn mobs and, as he died, told him to sit down and reflect on his crime.

Needless to say, my buddy and I made it through, and being as I had never made it past that part, I was rather satisfied. The cursing and screaming from those who bit the "snowdust" however, got grating after 20 minutes, and my ignore list claimed another soul...

Moral? I broke down, tried a PRICK-UP group, and payed with small doses of my own sanity. Bots are the best way for me...

At least you can get picked up at pickup groups. I have trouble finding a group when my guildmates aren't on, especially for the ascension missions. No one wants to take along my W/Me 17 because my level is too low. Hate to say it bub, but my 17 is just as good if not better than a 20 if I know the mission inside out and can play with skill.

I still haven't even clapped eyes on either the Underworld or the Fissure because NO ONE will take my Me/Mo. I've tried for days now and no go.

I would say 'experienced' player but I can't get the experience there since no one will take poor Kal.

The easiest time I ever had in the Ascension missions was when I specifically built a party out of people level 18 or lower. One monk was a level 14, but most people were 16 or 17. These were people that had gotten to the desert on skill, but once they arrived no one wanted them, so it was easy to get them to join my groups. It took us about two and a half hours to do the entire set of Ascension missions, including running from place to place and goofing off.

And all those level 20s going "LFG: NO NOOBS PLZ, I WANT TO FINALLY BEAT THIS MISSION THAT'S KILLED ME 22 TIMES!!1!"

Congratulations DrSLUGFly, you're a griefer. You could've left the mission the moment he ran for the mission end instead of the bonus part, but instead you continued on for a long while - you don't just pop up in the part where you defend the ruins. Guild Wars doesn't need players deciding when it's okay to grief, because it's obvious players aren't mature enough to make that call.

I can't understand why some of you applaud this kind of immature behaviour. Both sides were wrong, but one appeared to just be clueless, the OP's side was wilfully griefing. 'Well done'? Grow up.

I disagree, Silmor, on the part of the other player. He was not being clueless at all. Oh, right...maybe he just can't read! That's it! That's why he intentionally and deliberately ignored Slug's statements about wanting to do the bonus. *nods*

Please. Doc's not a griefer. Think of it as an object lesson. Maybe the guy will better determine his group's objectives before setting out on his -own- agenda next time.

Aniewiel, it's regrettable that you haven't wisened up beyond "teaching other players a lesson". There is no excuse for griefing, period. Endorsing any kind of griefing is endorsing all griefing. This is not how fellow players should treat eachother, regardless of circumstances.

Cause he was so proud of what he done.

I'll congratulate him anyway. I'm sick of the people that waste your time on this game. Seriously. It can be brushed off the first few times while playing the game, it keeps happening, over and over. It's bloody annoying and absolutely frustrating (even worse when you get so far and your connection dies, taking out you and your girlfriend, the team's ranger and monk out of the picture. That's another story though >.<). Some of these assholes deserve to get their own medicine. DrSlug's time was wasted as the leader dragged the team to do only the mission, when he advertised to do the bonus only, so it's only fair that the leader got what they had coming.

You could say it wasn't, but if the leader didn't want to do the bonus, he didn't have to get the dude on his team.

Our guys are down there, either UW or FoW, a number of times a day, in all sorts of combos and group sizes, from 1-8. You're more than welcome to come with us whenever the mood strikes you, just pm in game (or here)

As the owner of a mes, I feel your pain even though I rarely if ever PUG.

And to bring this back around on topic, since I rarely PUG, thankfully my horror stories are few and far between.

Agreed. There's no justification for griefing, it is something that shouldn't be condoned on any level.

I don't necessarily endorse what Slug did but I understand it. As I said in my original response, I would have dropped with warning. But that's just me. Does that make me a griefer too?

Isn't this just as bad? In a party of four, you've just reduced it by 25% and, in that particular mission, probably just doomed the party. I would argue that it sends the same 'message' as what Slug did.

*shrugs* What he did isn't my style but I certainly can't blame him for doing it.
